A Sioux City based non-profit agency, Opportunities Unlimited (OU) was founded in the early 1990’s by a group of parents and family members who have loved ones challenged with disabilities. Most were disabled as a result of traumatic or acquired brain injury. Realizing that suitable rehabilitation was not available, these family members founded OU. Since then, OU has grown to include rehabilitation services for people with birth complications such as spina bifida and cerebral palsy, and for people with spinal cord injuries.
OU has nine homes integrated into a suburban Sioux City neighborhood to serve the residential needs of OU clients. OU has expanded therapy services to a new 30,000 square foot "Community Center." In addition to providing client program services, the Center is available for use by community members.
The staff at OU are serious about their commitment to improve the lives of people with disabilities. We prove this commitment by providing leadership both at OU and across the state of Iowa. Members of the leadership team serve on the Iowa Governor’s Advisory Council on Brain Injuries and the Brain Injury Association Board of Directors.
OU believes that people with disabilities are important members of society who can reach their maximum potential if offered the proper therapy, education and encouragement. Our staunch devotion to this belief is unwavering. As a result, we make the successful rehabilitation of OU clients our top priority!
Cognitive therapy and active treatment take place in a professional yet informal setting. Client goals are set by an interdisciplinary team, including the client and their family. As they achieve these goals, a world of possibilities awaits them. Challenges are replaced by opportunities as they leave OU for a more independent and richer quality of life.
